Zac Efron has opened up about the upcoming High School Musical television series set to premiere on Disney’s new streaming service later this year.
With everyone and their next-door neighbour loving his portrayal of Troy Bolton, fans are understandably eager for him to make an appearance as either a teacher or coach in the future production.
When asked by Extra whether he’d consider a cameo in the series, the 31-year-old replied: “I don’t see why not” before pointing out that the trilogy “still resonates to this day.”
As much as we’d love for Zac to have already bagged a secret role in the production, he seemed totally oblivious to the existence of the show and said that he isn’t “fully committing” to a guest spot just yet.
Back in 2017, co-star Vanessa Hudgens pointed out how the HSM fandom has never stopped growing: “I mean it’s amazing,” she told E! News. “I think it just shows the power of a musical. They’re timeless.”
For anyone who needs an update on the upcoming series, the show will follow a group of students auditioning for a production of High School Musical, which means it might not make a lot of sense for the OG cast to drop in.
Ashley Tisdale recently said that she’s uncertain about portraying Sharpay Evans again, explaining: “I just don’t know if I can give her justice and be that character again” while Vanessa agreed that she has mixed feelings about appearing as a teacher.
Come on gang, this could be the start of something new.
